Organic Production 2-3 Paragraph Discussion

I’m giving you a choice this week.

There is only one topic but I have two “questions” for that topic.

We are looking at Organic Standards this week. There is a Standard published by the USDA and there are additional standards in many states (California has CCOF, Oregon has Oregon Tilth, etc…) … there are also some standards that are international and others that are available either nationally or regionally.

Your choice, Question 1 or 2

  • Question 1: Why are most local standards more restrictive than the USDA national standard for Organic Production?
  • Question 2: Is it possible to have one single world wide standard for Organic Production? — note: there are standards for production methods that are well beyond “organic” standards. We will be limiting the discussion to Organics.
